How can we counter bullying?
1. Ignore the Bully
Bullies are driven by the reaction shown to their actions; of a person walks away and ignores the bully's taunts, the bully will, after some time, become bored and will stop bothering the victim. By not reaction in a sad or angry way, the bully will not get the reaction they are looking for, and will ultimately leave you alone. Ways to do this include turning the situation into a humourous one, which will confuse the bully.
2. Don't Get Physical
By lashing out in reaction to the bully's actions, by means of kicking, punching and hitting, not only could you get hurt by the retaliation but you could also get yourself in deep trouble. Retaliation by physical means is said to be worse than the original actions by the bully towards the victim.
3. Practice Confidence
By practicing your responses to the bullying and by practicing feeling good about youself, you will be prepared to respond to further actions against you. Ways to help you feel good about yourself include joining sports teams and participating in more activities. This helps expand you social life and will result in a brighter personality for yourself.
4. Talk About It
By discussing your problems with a teacher, parent, guardian or close friend, actions can be made to help prevent your bullying. Talking can also help release stress and anxiety by helping you let go of the pain you're hoding onto and can ultimately make you feel better about the situation.
